Auditions for MCP's Pirates of Penzance

Director Lara Gonzalez, Producer Robert Terry, Musical Director Brian Bisig, and Choreographer Laureen Catlin are holding auditions for MCP's Summer show, Pirates of Penzance!
This classic Gilbert and Sullivan musical is full of hummable tunes, word play, unexpected encounters, and zombies. That’s right, the Pirates are zombies. Don’t worry, the maidens are still fair, and the Police remain brash, bumbling, Brits.
Auditions will be held
Saturday, March 22nd, from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM,
Sunday, March 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, or
Tuesday, March 25th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
at the Mason Community Playhouse,
5529 Mason Road in Mason.
Teens and adults of all ages are invited to audition! There will be an opportunity to sing, read from a script, and dance. We ask that you prepare a classical or traditional Broadway vocal selection of 16-32 bars. Please bring sheet music or a music track to sing along with. Both an accompanist and bluetooth speakers will be provided.
Those auditioning should fill out an audition form online or at the audition. The online form is accessible here!
Headshot/resume are welcome but not required. All roles are available.
Pirates of Penzance will be performed July 18, 19, 24, 25, & 26 at 8:00 PM and July 20 at 2:00 PM at the Mason Community Playhouse.
A potential seventh show may be added on Saturday, July 26, at 2:00 PM.

The show's characters include:
MAJOR-GENERAL STANLEY - A father with many daughters. He resembles a male Queen Victoria in his sensibilities. Possesses kindness, warmth, and good humor. The love for his daughters is undeniable.

THE PIRATE KING - The leader of the pirates. Despite his sharp and loud bark, he is actually a whole-hearted romantic with a soft bite. A handsome man typically found with an open shirt and wind in his hair.

SAMUEL (The King’s Lieutenant) - The Pirate King's right-hand man. Perhaps a bit rotund, Samuel is clever but easily manipulated and influenced.

FREDERIC (Pirate Apprentice) - A member of the Pirates. He is unaffected and possesses an unself-conscious sex appeal. Youthful, genuine and innocent.

SERGEANT OF POLICE - The leader of the police. He is Groucho Marx-esque and uncomfortably clumsy. Though their duty to protect is clear, the Sergeant and his police are more accustomed to fear, and hide.

MABEL (General Stanley’s Daughter) - Daughter of the Major-General. Mabel is a classic beauty similar to Lillian Gish or Mary Pickford. An astute young woman, she is sympathetic in nature. She and Frederic fall in love.

EDITH (General Stanley’s Daughter) - Daughter of the Major-General. Though a level-headed girl, she is quite mischievous. Very beautiful and the eldest of the daughters.

KATE (General Stanley’s Daughter) - Daughter of the Major-General. Quick-witted and rather sassy. She, like her other sisters, is strikingly beautiful.

ISABEL (General Stanley’s Daughter) –Daughter of the Major-General. Opinionated but supportive.

RUTH (a Pirate Maid of all Work) - Frederic's lifelong nanny. A sneaky Mrs. Potts, she is attractive enough for her age but cares very little about such things. She wants nothing more in life than to see Frederic happy, healthy, and by her side.

Note Pirates & Policemen are all male presenting, but may be played by any gender.
